Mehboob Rehman is a retired veteran who likes to spend his time after retirement in a meaningful and useful way. Growing up in an army family, he moved around a lot from place to place which created a longing in his heart for a permanent home. However, that was not possible for Mehboob as he too joined the army like his father and spent most of his life moving from city to city. However, after he retired, he did get a permanent home but years of work made him impossible to sit still so he decided to pursue a career in construction, something that he was passionate about from an early age but did not have the opportunity to pursue it. Mehboob believes that it is important for a person to achieve their passions and dreams whenever it is possible, this is why he did not let retirement get in the way of achieving his lifelong goals.
A New Beginning is a documentary that attempts to tackle the subject of life after retirement. For many, retirement seems like a relaxation period after spending most of your life working. Often, this relaxation period can lead to depression and anxiety in many. Through Mehboob’s story, A New Beginning shows that a persons’ life doesn’t have to end after retirement but it can be a chapter to a new start in life.
